FAQ
What does CityExpenses actually do?
It is a set of in-browser tools for one job: what must a salary in an Indian city cover? The cost calculator totals monthly living spend and adds a 33% planning buffer (not tax). The reverse CTC calculator turns a take-home target into CTC after tax. Tax Hub has income-tax, freelancer, capital gains, ESOP, and home-loan calculators plus FY 2026-27 guides. Offer Manager stores offer letters locally so you can compare packages.
Do I need an account?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Offer Manager saves to this device only (max 10 offers). Clearing site data wipes saved offers.
Are the calculator numbers live market prices?
No. You can type your own rent and expenses. Optional city presets exist as a starting point and are estimates. Always verify rent, fees, and tax with current listings and a professional before you decide.
What tax year do the tools use?
Tax Hub is built for FY 2026-27 / AY 2027-28 under the Income-tax Act, 2025 (Act No. 30 of 2025), in force 1 April 2026, as amended by the Finance Act, 2026, plus CBDT / Income Tax Department notifications and circulars. Check the page you are on if a tool mentions a different assessment year.
Is this financial or tax advice?
No. Educational tools only, not an adviser. Where a tax page cites an official source, that citation was checked in September 2026. That is not a professional review of every figure on the site. Calculator lifestyle and rent presets are estimates you can override; they are not live market prices.
How do I go from rent to a CTC number after tax?
1) Open the cost calculator and enter monthly expenses (or start from a city preset). 2) Treat that total as the take-home you need. 3) Paste it into the reverse CTC calculator to estimate employer CTC after tax, PF, and professional tax. 4) Park competing offers in Offer Manager on this device.
